Maps of the Oak Creek RanchEagle Township, Barber County, Kansas
The Oak Creek Ranch is comprised of all of Section 16-32-14, the South Half of Section 9-32-14, portions of Section 21-32-14, portions of Section 10-32-14 and the NE/4 of the NE/4 of Section 15-32-14 in Eagle Township, Barber County, Kansas. It is located in the Red Hills geological area about 5 miles south of Lake City and 14 miles west of Medicine Lodge, Kansas.
The ranch encompasses more than 2,000 contiguous acres of wildlife habitat including Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) grassland, wooded canyons, oak trees, a 38 acre lake, numerous ponds, springs and Oak Creek, which traverses over 4 miles of the ranch.
None of the Oak Creek Ranch land was settled under the provisions of the Homestead Act. All the land across the southern part of Kansas, extending west from the Missouri border to the 100th meridian (through Englewood and Dodge City) and south of a line running east-west through a point near Dodge City, was set aside as the Osage Diminished Reserve. The Oak Creek Ranch is comprised of what was once Osage Diminished Reserve land.
Federal Highway U.S. 160 forms part of the northern border of the Oak Creek Ranch.
