Hiking, Backpacking, Birdwatching, Flower and Wildlife Photogaphy

The Oak Creek Ranch encompasses more than 2,000 contiguous acres of habitat including Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) grassland, wooded canyons, oak trees, a 40 acre lake, numerous ponds, springs and Oak Creek, which traverses over 4 miles of the ranch. Deer feeders and food plots are utilized in order to maintain the wildlife population. Wildlife on the ranch includes whitetail deer, mule deer, turkey, quail, pheasant, Canadian geese and many other types of birds.

In offering visitors the opportunity to hike, backpack and watch wildlife on the ranch, Ronnie Hoagland is sharing some of his favorite uses of the ranch.

You'll want to bring your camera when you visit the ranch, as you are likely to see many things you'll want to photograph as well as observe. Most of the photographs on this web site, with the exception of the photos of wildflowers, were taken by Ronnie Hoagland. Ask Ronnie where you should look on the ranch to find certain photographic subjects of interest to you, as it is likely he will be able to give you some good pointers.

Visitors who arrange to camp overnight on the ranch may wish to also request permission from Ronnie Hoagland to bring their own "hunting blind" to set up near one of the deer feeders to be able to have a closeup view of the deer, turkey and other creatures which visit the feeders frequently, particularly at dawn, dusk and in the dark.

Hikers and other visitors to the ranch are only permitted during times and at places when and where hunters will not be present.

For more information on arranging your visit to the Oak Creek Ranch, please see our Visitor's Information.
